Lowest 9th grade offer scores by school
NYCPS publishes the lowest composite SHSAT score that resulted in a 9th grade offer at each testing school. Admissions year means the September a student started high school, so 2026 admissions is the group that tested in fall 2025.
| School | 2023 admissions | 2024 admissions | 2025 admissions | 2026 admissions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stuyvesant High School | 561 | 561 | 556 | 561 |
| HS of Math, Science & Engineering at CCNY | 518 | 542 | 526 | 539 |
| Queens HS for the Sciences at York College | 527 | 524 | 518 | 531 |
| Bronx High School of Science | 521 | 526 | 518 | 525 |
| Staten Island Technical High School | 521 | 519 | 527 | 517 |
| HS of American Studies at Lehman College | 510 | 514 | 504 | 507 |
| Brooklyn Technical High School | 503 | 507 | 505 | 506 |
| The Brooklyn Latin School | 493 | 492 | 496 | 495 |
What a cutoff is, and what it is not
A cutoff is the score of the last student who received an offer at that school. It is set after the fact by how many seats the school had and how the students above that line ranked their choices. Nobody chooses it in advance.
A cutoff is not a passing score. A student at or above Bronx Science's number could still miss Bronx Science if they ranked it below a school that filled first, or did not list it. Offers follow score order, then each student's own preference list.
How stable the numbers are
Stuyvesant has stayed between 556 and 561 across these four years, and Brooklyn Latin between 492 and 496. Other schools move more. Math, Science & Engineering ranged from 518 to 542, and Staten Island Tech moved 10 points in one year. Smaller schools with fewer seats swing more.
Fall 2026 is the first computer-adaptive SHSAT. NYCPS says scaled scoring stays consistent with earlier administrations, but no one knows the 2027 cutoffs until offers are made. Treat these tables as history that shows which schools fill higher, not as a target score.
How many students test and get offers
According to NYCPS admissions outcomes data, 26,123 students took the SHSAT for 2026 admissions and 4,023 received an offer at a testing school, plus 795 offers through the Discovery program. That is roughly one offer for every six or seven test takers.
Brooklyn Tech makes the most offers by far, with 1,393 for 2026 admissions. Stuyvesant made 777 and Bronx Science 726. The three smallest schools each made fewer than 150 offers: Math, Science & Engineering; Queens HS for the Sciences; and American Studies at Lehman.
| School | Offers, 2026 admissions |
|---|---|
| Brooklyn Technical High School | 1,393 |
| Stuyvesant High School | 777 |
| Bronx High School of Science | 726 |
| The Brooklyn Latin School | 416 |
| Staten Island Technical High School | 294 |
| HS of Math, Science & Engineering at CCNY | 144 |
| Queens HS for the Sciences at York College | 139 |
| HS of American Studies at Lehman College | 134 |
| All testing schools | 4,023 |
10th grade cutoffs
First-time 9th graders can test for 10th grade seats. Those seats are rare, so the cutoffs are usually higher and less stable. For 2026 admissions, NYCPS lists 562 for Stuyvesant; 554 for Math, Science & Engineering; 543 for Brooklyn Tech; 537 for Queens HS for the Sciences; 535 for American Studies at Lehman; and 530 for Staten Island Tech.
The official 2026 table lists 652 for both Bronx Science and Brooklyn Latin at 10th grade. That is far above every other school and looks like an error, so check the live NYCPS page before relying on those two numbers.
